Viticulture—or the cultivation of grapevines—is an ancient horticultural practice. When Jesus calls himself the vine and the Father the vinedresser (in John 15), he is painting a rich picture of what it looks like to abide in the love of God and to bear fruit.
All spiritual practices have the goal of cultivating a life of abiding—intimacy and dependence—and this abiding allows the fruits of the Spirit to grow and flourish. As these fruits (found in Galatians 5:22-23) grow in us, they impact every area of our lives: How we neighbor, parent, serve, work, and rest.
As we grow in the Spirit, we find where our spiritual formation and the vocations of our lives meet. Join us this fall as we learn from good viticulture and the countercultural way of the vine.
