As a community called to and for justice, how does the body of Christ actually go about accomplishing it? In today's texts, we see three snapshots of what the world looks like when God's shalom comes. The Zechariah text anticipates a time of flourishing in God's holy city. In Luke 4, Jesus proclaims that the prophecy of Isaiah 61 is fulfilled in his arrival at the outset of Jesus' ministry. Yet in Luke 23, we see the way that Jesus accomplishes God's justice is very unexpected. In the scene before Pilate, we discover that there are two paths towards justice, the way of Jesus Barrabas and the way of Jesus the Messiah. this sermon will explore those two paths of advocating God's justice in the world.
