Incubator /ˈiNGkyəˌbādər/

"an apparatus with a chamber used to provide controlled environmental conditions especially for the cultivation of microorganisms or the care and protection of premature or sick babies."

You may wonder what this talk is about monthly Small Group Incubator events through the summer. At WCF, we believe that Small Groups are a vital part of our community life AND our spiritual life together. In a place like the DC region where relationships are often transactional and transient, this kind of shared life is counter-intuitive. It takes care and support, especially in its early stages of formation, much like an incubator for a premature baby or a new business startup.

Consider a few questions, especially if you don’t have immediate family in the area: Who might you invite to join you for a picnic? Who might you call for help with a move or to borrow a tool? Who do you put down as an emergency contact for your child’s school? Who might you call on to help water your plants and care for your pets when you’re out of town? Who can you share your prayer requests with? Who can you share your questions of faith and Scripture with? Those are the questions that we hope belonging to a Small Group can help you in. That’s what we might refer to as doing "life together.” While a small group isn't expected to do ALL those things, we do hope that they can be a place where we feel safe asking those kinds of questions.

The Small Group Incubator events are opportunities to dip your toes into what the vision for Small Groups at WCF might look like. This Sunday marks our first Incubator event taking place in the Fellowship Hall from 11:30-12:30. Word on the street is that there may be some treats to reward you for arriving a bit earlier!  Whether you’re wondering about what small groups are, hoping to connect to a small group, or just want to connect with others in a different setting, join us this Sunday. RSVP to let us know you’re coming

To find out more about Small Groups, read more here. Even better, contact Kate Lawson-Hedger, our new Small Groups Coordinator, who would love to chat with you more!

This Sunday, we continue our summer message series entitled, God’s Transforming Justice. Elder Jessica Zurcher will share a message on “Being Restored” from the lectionary texts: Lamentations 3:22-33; Psalm 130; Mark 5:21-43. Join us this Sunday at 10 am in-person or online at wcfchurch.org/live

Lectionary readings for this week:
