Have you been looking for a way to serve our local community? Washington Community Fellowship partners with Little Lights Urban Ministries, a local nonprofit whose mission is to empower underserved youth, families, and communities in Washington DC by sharing the hope of Christ through compassionate action, caring relationships, and racial reconciliation.

With Little Lights, there are many opportunities to mentor and tutor local students. Check out the message from Little Lights below to see how you can get involved!

Here are our immediate volunteer needs:
  1. HomeworkClub is our biggest and widest-reaching youth education program. Homework Club volunteers assist students with their homework and other academic activities or help facilitate recreation/meal time for students from PreK-8th grade. Volunteers serve in person at any of our five program sites weekly for the fall semester, starting in mid-September through mid-December, any day, Monday - Thursday, from 3:30-6:00 pm. Little Lights follows the DCPS calendar.

  2. Join our Christian Mentoring ProgramAs a Christian mentor, the goal is twofold: to love your mentee as God loves, freely and unconditionally, and to model what it means to love and follow Jesus. If anyone is interested in getting more information or starting the application process, please share my email at alizahwilson@littlelights.org.

  3. Reading Heroes and Math Heroes starts the week of September 25th and will wrap up the week of December 4th. Reading Heroes will take place on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30, and Math Heroes on Thursdays from 6:00-7:30. You do not have to be a math whiz to volunteer for Math Heroes. We have a set curriculum that our site leaders will help train volunteers.

  4. For all other volunteer opportunities, look at our website and fill out a volunteer application.
