Welcome to Advent

Newsletter content

The season of Advent is often seen as a season of waiting. But this waiting is not a passive waiting. It’s not just waiting around. It is a kind of waiting that is pregnant with action. Pay attention to the kinds of actions that we find in the readings of the Year B Lectionary readings: restore, keep awake, make way, prepare, proclaim, rejoice! Could the Way of Jesus be an invitation to approach the Advent/Christmas season differently than the hustle and bustle of the world around us? This advent season, consider how the Ancient Text might inform our activity during the Advent/Christmas season in the Advent series: Advent Action.

Wondering where to start?

During these weeks, many of us find ourselves overwhelmed with fun, time with loved ones, shopping and more. Or maybe, for you, this time is a little too quiet and you are experiencing some complicated emotions. It can be helpful to have some grounding practices during the Advent season.

Here you can find resources for individuals, your family, or your small group:

  • 2023 Advent Devotional: This resource is designed to help you explore how God is inviting you into quiet communion and meaningful action this Advent season. There are 2 days of content for each week of December, allowing for flexibility and slower contemplation.

  • Advent Devotional via Text: Need a text reminder to help center you this month? When you sign up, a portion of the devotional will be sent to you 2 times a week (Tuesdays and Fridays) for the 4 weeks of December. Scan the QR code below or text Advent to 833-593-8324.

  • Illustrated Advent Children's Resource: This PDF Advent Calendar titled "Preparing The Way" provides weekly family devotional opportunities and a daily advent calendar to color together that will walk you through Advent, exploring the traditional Advent themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. In addition, there are engaging activities such as DIY ornaments and coloring sheets that explore Jesus' birth. This is great for all ages, but especially for some of our older children. We will have some copies printed on December 3 as well as some other Advent Calendar options.
