Our individualistic, consumer–oriented society can easily influence our approach to Christian spirituality. We ask God for a vision for our lives. We ask God to help us with the passions we believe God has wired us for. We invite others into the work of justice and restoration that we feel will make the world a better place.
All of these are worthy endeavors, but we may miss out on seeing the big-picture view of what God is doing in the world through God’s son, Jesus Christ. Paul’s letter to the Ephesian church helps us engage with contemporary concerns for diversity, unity, use of power and every-day relationships with this big-picture view of God’s redemptive plan in mind.
