Join us this Lent as we gather to mix bread dough in community, meditate on a devotional together, and then individually bring the dough home and bake it in our own homes the next day. Each baker may then find a way to share the bread as an act of hospitality and community care.
Each 1.5 hour session will take place in the Fellowship Hall, where we’ll learn simple bread-making skills while reflecting on themes from Bake and Pray by Kendall Vanderslice. This gentle, meditative curriculum weaves together the practices of baking and prayer, exploring themes of transformation, control, stretching, and rest. No baking experience is required—you can join for one session...or all of them!
How it works: Our facilitator is local creative, Rachel Trego. We’ll mix, knead, and prepare dough together. Participants will then take their dough home for its final rise and bake it the next day, with the baking happening at home. Participants simply need to bring a large mixing bowl or container, and all other supplies will be provided on site.
Cost: The ingredient cost for the full series (four loaves of bread) is approximately $5 per participant. Thanks to the generosity of our community, this event is fully covered and free to attend. When you RSVP through the registration form, you’ll have the option to contribute toward ingredient costs if you’d like—but there is no expectation or requirement to do so.
